Acupuncture for Rejuvenation of Aging Hands

Hands are always the tell. We spend so much time and effort on keeping our faces looking young, but not the same attention is paid to aging hands. If our hands look old, people know that our face isn’t naturally young looking. Aging hands can reveal our true age, even when we’ve tried to slow or turn back the aging process in other places, like the face and neck. Unfortunately, sometimes are hands even look older than our faces suggest.

Now acupuncture with the use of massage and herbal remedies can provide a natural solution to aging hands by improving the texture and tone of the skin on the hands, fighting age spots on the hands and filling in the skin when the hands start to look withered and dry. Acupuncture hand rejuvenation also helps with dry, rough skin on the hands from frequent washing or overuse.

What causes aging of the hands?

We see signs of aging on our hands for two reasons:

  1. Near constant exposure to harsh elements, including the sun. Our hands are always exposed to the sun when we’re outside, unless we’re wearing gloves. We often remember to apply sunscreen to our faces along with daily moisturizers, but rarely remember to apply sunscreen to our hands. Our hands age more quickly with all that sun exposure, which can lead to sun spots, liver spots and sun damage of the skin on the hands.
  2. The normal aging process. The normal aging process involves a slowing of the production of collagen and elastin, making skin less resilient to stretching and moving, something our hands do quite a lot of. This can lead to a loss of volume in the tissue of the hands. Also, when there are conditions like arthritis or other musculoskeletal disorders of the hand, there can be a loss of muscle tone and volume. Either way, the skin becomes loose and looks wrinkled. It’s also likely that tendons and veins become more noticeable, even “pop out” of the skin.

What is the acupuncture treatment for Hand Rejuvenation?

The acupuncture treatment we developed combines all of the best parts of the acupuncture experience at Jinhee Yoo Acupuncture. You will leave feeling relaxed and at peace. We use acupuncture points on the body to help rebalance the constitution for overall health and to relax the mind. We also apply acupuncture to the hands to stimulate the muscles, tendons and ligaments. This stimulates circulation in the hand and is beneficial in the same way it is for treatment of hand pain. After the acupuncture treatment, we use an herbal invigorating soak to further bolster circulation and follow up with a hand massage that uses powdered herbs and freshwater pearls. Pearl powder is an ancient beauty secret that’s over 2,000 years old. We also use a patented Guasha tool made of agate or jade during the massage to reach deep into the crevices of the hands and make sure our stimulating and rejuvenating techniques leave no part untouched.

What should I expect from acupuncture cosmetic hand rejuvenation?

Unlike fat transplants or fillers that a plastic surgeon may use to rejuvenate the appearance of the hands, acupuncture treatment for aging hands doesn’t work instantaneously. When you come for treatment, we’ll talk to you more about this. But the short answer is that, like facial rejuvenation, you should commit to a course of 10 treatments, with treatments being spaced 5 to 7 days apart.

The first thing you will notice is the skin on the hands becoming smoother, softer and more supple. As the circulation continues to improve, you should begin to notice a reduction in the sunken-in appearance between the finger bones or the degree to which the tendons and veins stick out. Age spots will begin to shrink, too. Through the combination of hand points with acupuncture for constitutional balance, you should see an improvement in the fingernails, too.

As the effects of the acupuncture rejuvenation build on the previous treatment’s effects, you should notice an increase in the youthful, healthy appearance of your hands. Before you know it, people will be commenting on how young you look after looking at your hands!
