Acupuncture and herbal medicine treat pityriasis versicolor

Pityriasis versicolor, also known as tinea versicolor, causes the skin to change its coloration, either lighter or darker than the surrounding areas. Pityriasis is a common yeast infection. It is caused by Pityrosprum orbiculare (Malasesezia furfur). Pityriasis causes light brown or orange-brown spots that may become yellow-brown or even white in color. Additionally, pityriasis may cause fine scaling (flaking) when the affected area is scraped or scratched. The neck, chest and back are the most commonly affected areas.

Acupuncture treats pityriasis versicolor through harmonizing the skin and the blood, the source of nourishment for the skin. Additionally, acupuncture treats pityriasis versicolor by strengthening the body’s constitution (overall health) to resist fungal infections like this one.

In addition to acupuncture, I use Chinese herbal medicine to treat pityriasis versicolor. I use a combination of topical herbal medicine washes and soaks for the skin of the affected area with internal herbal medicine formulas to strengthen the body, resolve the infection and nourish the skin.

Patients who decide not to use herbal medicine are less likely to see a reduction in pityriasis versicolor symptoms, if any at all. Herbal medicine is a key part of a successful treatment plan.

Because each person is unique, I custom tailor acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbal medicine formulas exactly to you. Each person is unique, each set of symptoms is unique and each treatment is unique. I have completed additional studies in dermatology so I can be able to provide individualized treatments like these.
